What’s not to like when it comes to food festivals? Rows and rows of stalls in the warm sunshine, dishing out delicious food from so many different kinds of cuisines – all you need is great company and an open mind so you can sample the best there is to offer without stepping out of the city! On 10th February, Stonehill International School hosted its annual PTA International Food Fair. The twist is that all the food at this fair was cooked by parents of the students. A truly international school, Stonehill has students from South Korea, Denmark, Brazil, USA, Sweden and so many other countries.
A stroll through the sprawling 34 acre campus of Stonehill International School takes you through a vibrant campus bustling with activity and enthusiasm! The International Food Fair was no exception, and as it was open to the public, it was wonderful to see people getting a different perspective on international cuisines that went beyond the latest new restaurant in town. There were rows of ‘pop-up cafes’ as they called them, with smiling parents across so many cultures serving visitors at the stall with their country’s best and most delicious. If you thought Italy was only about pizza, the Italy stall showcased so much more. The kids were super happy as well to get to know more about their friends’ customs and what they loved to eat.
Between 12-4 pm, the Stonehill International School saw a huge number of visitors who enjoyed the whole atmosphere of cultural exchange facilitated by the festival. Students from Stonehill put on some truly wonderful music performances to create a fun and leisurely mood for the day. It was the perfect accompaniment to the delectable food being served there. There were game stalls too, and all the proceeds from the stalls went to charities like Morningstar Ashram and IKSHA Foundation.
The event also saw warm interactions between the parents hosting the stalls and visitors, and gave visitors a glimpse into life at Stonehill.
It’s heartening to know that there are places like Stonehill International School emerging in the education space. An international school accredited by CIS/NEASC and the Australian Boarding Schools Association, it offers a truly global and inclusive approach to learning through its all-rounded approach to education. Its staff and student body comprises people from over 35 nations. Apart from excellent classroom facilities, it also has two swimming pools, an equestrian centre, two libraries, a cafeteria and more. We’re living in an increasingly globalized world, and what’s better than giving your child a place where they can actually experience it that way. Stonehill fosters an environment of inclusivity and appreciation for different places, cultures and people from an early age.
I for one wish I’d gone to a school like this one, though mine came pretty close! I love meeting new people and visiting places so this would’ve been perfect. I’m looking forward to seeing what other events they have in store.
