Wine tasting is as complex and delightful an art as one can get, and my interest in learning more about it led me to a wonderful dinner hosted at Alto Vino, Courtyard by Marriott Bangalore. We discussed the flavours, notes and compositions of some of the most exquisite wines from Italy with Viraj Sawant, Sommelier & Brand Ambassador of Berkmann Wine Cellars India, and experienced a menu that paired perfectly with them, prepared by Chef Marou of Alto Vino, Courtyard by Marriott Bangalore.
After the craziness of the week, when the last thing you need to hear is the sound of another email hitting your inbox, when you want work as far away from your mind as possible, the prospect of relaxing is amazing. When you’re done with Friday’s shenanigans and are looking forward to the rest of the weekend, the best way to celebrate is with brunch. A huge spread, catered to every possible taste, with a fun live gig in the background, and wine or champagne with your friends or partner for company – complete bliss. I recently attended the Retro brunch at High Ultra Lounge and apart from having a fabulous brunch, learned about wine pairings from the team at Grover Wines.
I’ve always maintained that art is something one must get acquainted with at some point in one’s life. Art has many forms – whether it’s related to performing arts, design, paintings, or music. Art is the most elevated form of expression, in my opinion, and any celebration of it is definitely to be welcomed. I had earlier written about Art Bengaluru and what to look forward to in this contemporary art extravaganza. I was one of the privileged few to attend the opening night of Art Bengaluru which included many stunning art installations and a musical night. Read on to know more about it.
Art Bengaluru is one of South India’s leading annual festivals for contemporary art where it showcases some of the most promising talent in all forms of art, whether it’s painting, design, music or cinema in the contemporary world. Held at UB City, the art extravaganza goes on for about two weeks within which one gets to experience the very best in contemporary cinema, go for informative workshops and be part of events that celebrate the complete joy that art can bring.
When I hear stories of old Bombay, about the quaint Irani cafes and the influence of Parsi heritage on this beautiful country, a lot of illustrious Parsi names come to mind. From actors like Boman Irani to visionaries like JRD, there’s so much to love about the community and its vibrant culture. When I first visited Soda Bottle Opener Wala, the name itself brought a smile to my face as I recalled the typical Parsi surname – from Screwvala to Daruwala, and dreamt of making a quiet trip to Bombay spent discovering these cafes and having a nice conversation with an old Parsi lady over a strong cup of Irani tea. I recently had the chance to discover what comprises a Parsi Bhonu, a meal specially prepared for Navroz, the Parsi New Year, at Soda Bottle Opener Wala. Read on to know my impressions of it!
When you crave a giant cheesy burger with a mountain-load of fries on the side, or a chocolate brownie or whatever you love, there’s often no stopping you once you’re convinced. You might feel like wolfing one down but sometimes, it’s good to stop and think about all that cholesterol that this might cause in the long run. It’s not about you getting old but just about eating smart. Recently, I had the chance to discover how to indulge in easy and healthy snacking with Real Good Yummiez and Chef Michael Swamy at the lovely Cafe Mangii in a High Tea event at Orion Mall. Read on to know the 3 ways he taught us to create healthy snacks.
While we hear a lot about wine and scotch connoisseurs, it’s not very common in India to talk about beer as much. It’s always been considered a very casual, ‘for-the-boys’ kind of beverage which does not get half the attention it deserves. With the rise of craft breweries across the country, this is set to change, and Gurgaon hosted the first ever Beer Week powered by Zomato, from 11th-18th June. Read on to know more about my experience at the launch of Beer Week Gurgaon, and all the interesting conversations and activities that were part of this 10-day extravaganza.
Bartending has emerged in this country in recent years as a careful art, and there’s a huge number of talented bartenders this country has to offer – a lot of them work at well-known bars and breweries across the country. The 7th Edition of the Diageo Reserve World Class India Finals held recently at Hype, JW Marriott, Bangalore, brought together some of the country’s finest most skilled bartenders as they showcased their skills to a panel of judges in a one-of-its-kind bartending competition.
E-commerce websites have more or less taken over our lives now in terms of changing how we shop. It’s a lot easier for most of us to shop at just a click, especially with all the endless deals seen online, and the promise of fast delivery. I personally always prefer shopping online, mainly because it lets me multitask and save time, but when it comes to denim I can’t compromise. That’s the only time you’ll see me actually visit a store.
