Is mustard yellow the new millennial pink? It sure seems to be everywhere this fall, and I don’t think anyone’s complaining! It’s a beautiful colour and lends itself to some interesting colour combinations. What do you typically associate with autumn? Other than falling leaves, I think of lightly spiced coffee (no, not pumpkin spice. Mm, cinnamon), books, transitions, new plans and long walks in the park! But this year, I’m definitely thinking of mustard yellow too. So that’s why I’m going to show you how to wear mustard yellow with a dress that I picked up from FabAlley. Read on to see my take!
How to Wear Mustard Yellow
Mustard yellow is a great colour for anyone who hesitates to wear sunshine or lemon yellow. Mustard yellow is a lot subtler, yet bright enough to look amazing on you. I personally rarely wear yellow, the last time I did was in this Gauri and Nainika dress.
I’m not sure there’s an exact reason to it, but I just never thought of it as ‘my colour’. If you’re hesitant to wear yellow too, you might want to start by getting to know how to wear mustard yellow. It’s like sunshine yellow’s sophisticated, mysterious cousin. Which is why you need to work it the right way! Still a bit iffy? Start with something small, like an accessory, or a crop top. Next, figure the colour scheme you like. I love bold colours so I tried red!
Colour Combinations That Work With Mustard Yellow
Grey and navy blue look beautiful with mustard yellow if you prefer something more subtle to complement it. So does brown, keeping with the earthy tones. I’ve tried to combine a bit of each of these colours in this second way I’ve shown you how to style mustard yellow.
The key to balancing out your outfit – two ways. Either make mustard the focal colour or make it an accent. Once you’ve decided that, plan your accessories and overall colour theme around it.
In the first look, I made mustard the focus, and added a pop of red to it, with brown boots to finish the look. The teal bag added another complementary pop of colour.
In the second look, I added red tights to make the focus equal on the dress and the accessories. My navy blue embroidered drawstring bag was a minimal yet impactful accessory. You could skip that altogether and just carry a plain black clutch or sling too!
There’s so many ways to know how to wear mustard yellow, and I enjoyed putting together these two looks for you guys. Let me know your favourite, and don’t forget to follow me on Instagram for more outfit inspo, beauty tips and sneak peeks behind the scenes at my favourite events!
