Outfit Of The Day: Blue Tweed Skirt
You’re not alone if tweed conjures up images of fall, or of Chanel and all things quintessentially British. For Spring/Summer 2018, tweed was seen at major runways right from Chanel to Gucci and Alexander McQueen. Tweed is normally worn in the form of a tweed jacket or coat, or as coordinates. In this look I’ve taken only the skirt from my tweed coordinates and styled it differently. So if you want to know how to style a tweed skirt, let’s take a look!
Bangalore has been having a spate of great weather lately! I took advantage of the cloudiness to shoot and try on my tweed outfit. The winter here barely lasts, and I was away in Bhutan so couldn’t do this sooner.
Tweed is generally associated with Fall/Autumn, but well, rules are meant to be broken. I found this (albeit faux, I would roast in actual tweed in this city) tweed skirt just perfect for Spring. It’s actually a set – a tweed blazer with a skirt. Instead of going the predictable way I thought I’d style it differently.
One of my classic ways on how to style a tweed skirt is to pair it with a crisp white buttondown shirt and pumps, and probably add a cardigan or sweater vest too.
How To Style A Tweed Skirt
This outfit for me, is a coming together of the mood of fall and the freshness of Spring. It makes me reminisce of long walks through GK-1 M Block market. Taking in the window shopping. Stopping by Barista for a cup of coffee that warmed me inside and out. Of realizing that my home, Delhi, was one of the few places that saw all 4 seasons in a year. I walked through the neat and tidy lanes of Indiranagar, so far away from home. The orange and yellow blossoms in the trees. The stunning pink and purple flowers that heralded Spring. Bangalore’s lovely weather and chill vibes.
This eye-catching blue button-down shirt is a classic piece from my wardrobe. I have worn it so many different ways, once even as a shirt dress. Tucked into my tweed skirt, it provides a lovely contrast while still being in the blue family of colours.
I chose to layer it with a pinstriped blazer to complete the look, though it can be worn without it as well. The pinstriped blazer lends a smart, tailored feel to the entire look.
I love experimenting with my eyewear as well, and these hexagonal sunglasses from Frames Fashion seemed like the obvious choice! The recent trend of colourful mirrored eyewear is fun and just my type.
I decided to keep my footwear simple and minimal so I opted for these strappy grey heels as the finishing touch to the outfit.
So these were my tips on how to style a tweed skirt. In the weeks to come I’m excited to show you all the brand new styles I’m going to be shooting.
