As someone who was brought up in different cultures, tradition means something different to me. It’s not just about customs that have always been around, not to be questioned. It’s more about creating meaning in the everyday, about making our own routines for special occasions and otherwise.
Tradition to me is about us driving around the block to see the lights during Diwali. It’s about listening to Jim Reeves and Nat King Cole with the family on rainy nights. It’s mom bringing a new doll from every trip abroad or otherwise, for us to display during kolu at Navratri. And now, it’s mom showing me her sari collection and reminiscing on the memories associated with them. It’s me showing her movies and shows she hadn’t had a chance to watch earlier.
Everyone has their own set of traditions, which tend to transcend time. What it consists of might change slightly, but the sentiment and the timing stays the same.
Sri Ganesh Diamonds & Jewellery is a brand that was established as a family-owned jewellery business in 1965, and has carried its timeless traditions of design, craftsmanship and transparency over to the 21st century.
Jewellery for them is art, one that can inspire you at any age. Their passion for fine jewellery spans several generations, and when I spoke to Mr. Deepak, their founder, it was evident how much love he had for the craft.
All of their collections are handcrafted by a team of expertly skilled gemologists and jewellers. They painstakingly create every piece to ensure that the highest standards of quality are adhered to as well, using the finest of materials in gold, silver, diamonds and precious stones.
Sri Ganesh Diamonds & Jewellery – the legacy
At the opening of their new flagship store in Basaveshwaranagar, Bangalore, I had a chance to see for myself just how much thought and artistry goes into each of their creations.
The massive store has separate floors for different types of jewellery ranging from gold, gemstones and silver to exclusive wedding jewellery collections. Lots of people thronged the store on launch day to experience everything the store has to offer.
Gold is of course, the most popular kind of jewellery here in India. At Sri Ganesh Diamonds & Jewellery, they have a wonderful gold jewellery collection with the 916 hallmark. It lends itself to workwear jewellery, traditional and wedding jewellery and even everyday occasions.
Silver is a material that lends itself to a lot more than just jewellery, so Sri Ganesh Diamonds & Jewellery offer silverware such as pooja items, cutlery, dining sets, furniture and a lot more in this range.
When it comes to diamond jewellery, they always ensure they work with the finest diamonds of the highest grade, i.e. certified and free from flaws. Their collections range from the most stunning statement pieces to work wear, solitaires and a lot more.
Platinum is one of the most rare and precious metals and has gained popularity recently. It offers a beautiful, flawless finish and when combined with 18-karat gold, it creates a very sophisticated look.
Sri Ganesh Diamonds & Jewellery also have a temple collection and a Royal collection. Just like traditions, heritage jewellery is timeless and never goes out of style! Whether it’s a wedding, a house warming, or any other happy occasion, you can always mix and match from these collections. The Royal collection derives inspiration from the bygone era of kings, queens and palaces by using rubies, emeralds, Valanda diamonds in combination with gold. The temple collection takes its inspiration from temple jewellery of the 9th century and was mostly used to adorn goddesses. However today, it has taken women’s imagination by storm and is a very popular choice.
I’m going to talk about some of my favourite pieces that stood out for me.
Normally, I prefer silver, diamonds and platinum but from gold, this piece really caught my eye. It uses a traditional motif (the peacock) and turns it into something beautiful and unexpected. I love the way the centres of the flowers stand out and the little bells dangling from the bottom. A true statement piece.
This piece is exquisite – on one side we have kundan overlaid with gold flowers and turquoise beads shaped into tiny fruit for a dash of colour.
I love how they’ve combined diamonds and pearls here to create this elegant showstopper of a necklace.
Finally, the brilliant green emeralds of this necklace draw the eye to the intricate patterns of diamonds that seem almost woven together with pearls studded every now and then.
Sri Ganesh Diamonds & Jewellery offer a plethora of options to choose from for the modern woman, her mom and even her grandmom. The beauty of this jeweller lies in the fact that they have nurtured tradition to the point that it seamlessly blends with modern sensibilities. With this amazing new store in Basaveshwaranagar, they’re definitely set to surprise Bangalore with their art. Step into one of their stores to take a tour and explore their one-of-a-kind collections pretty soon!
