Getting outfit ideas for winter that don’t involve black, beige or grey colours can be tough. Let me just say that winter is one of my favourite seasons ever. The chill in the air, snuggling under the quilt, and most of all, the fabulousness that is winter fashion. So while Bangalore doesn’t really have a winter to speak of, I hardly get to wear my winter coats and boots that I brought from back home in Delhi. In Bhutan though, I had a blast styling my outfits throughout the trip I had with Mahindra Adventure. When it’s freezing cold like it was there, you may think it’s not really practical to think of style. But you’d be surprised! I’m going to show you some outfit ideas for winter – what I wore during my trip so you can see how easy it is to look good and stay warm too.
First things first. Invest in a few key winter pieces like a coat, a jacket, a puffer jacket and a great pair or two of boots. The rest can be from your existing wardrobe since you just have to layer them. I took along 3 different coats that lasted me through the nearly 12 days I spent in Bhutan, as I mixed and matched them. For accessories, a classic beret or bakerboy cap and a scarf are great options.
My first look was all about layering with a touch of colour. Bhutan is generally a very happy and colourful country and it was in that headspace that I put together this outfit. Walking through the neat little roads, taking in the sights and sounds and most of all, finding the most delightful buildings and windows and walls to pose in front of!
I felt totally snug in this outfit – thermal inside, a shirt over it, this pretty dark blue sweater over that, a scarf, and then my favourite classic black coat over it, along with these super warm trousers. These Steve Madden boots were my best friends throughout the trip. I wore them with warm, long calf-length socks through the trip and my feet were never cold!
While on the road, I kept things relatively simple in monochromes. This white turtleneck sweater is snug and warm and feels like a comforting hug. Jeans and my black coat was all I needed for this one! This outfit gives me memories of those gorgeous winding mountain roads on the drive to Bhutan!
Bhutan’s dzongs and temples are full of gorgeous carvings and colourful paintings. In keeping with that theme and my love for colours, I put together this outfit. Who says winter has to be bleak and full of muted neutrals? This green coat just makes the entire outfit pop!
I added a classic red beret on top to complete my look!
At other times when it was less cold, I wore this pretty glitter turtle neck sweater from Mango over my leather leggings – we were there around Christmas and new year so I definitely felt sparkly and festive in it!
Finally, on my way back home, I decided to keep it simple and comfortable. This black coat has been my wardrobe staple for over 10 years now (yes, really! It’s an investment) for the simple fact that it’s of amazing quality and goes with everything! Everyone must own a classic black coat. Jeans and a blue sweater kept the look very minimal. I had to take off the coat later because it was so freaking hot (compared to Bhutan lol) by the time we crossed into India.
