There’s something just so ethereal and beautiful about cherry blossoms – the Japanese seem to agree, considering they have an annual Cherry Blossom viewing festival! The delicate pink blossoms are a wonderful sight to see in the middle of the concrete jungles that are our cities. Sakura means cherry blossom in Japanese, and recently I had the chance to explore one of the most stunning collections of diamond jewellery crafted around this theme.
The beauty of sakura is not only in the light pink blossoms, but also in what they represent. From bud to blossom, they represent the natural cycle of life, with all its beauty and transience. To me, they make me think about how beauty can be seen everywhere, and that while moments can be fleeting and life can be fragile, it’s up to us to make the most of it.
The Sakura Collection by Ganjam seeks to capture just that. I had a chance to speak with the designer, Prriya Rathee about the inspirations behind this collection.
“I wanted to capture every aspect of the sakura, and not just its floral phase,” she explained. Different pieces in the collection show different stages of the blossoms. Handcrafted by skilled artisans, using F colour diamonds, pink sapphires, yellow sapphires, rubelites and tourmaline, each piece is a collector’s item in itself. We took a tour of the workshop that the artisans have set up in the upper floor of their flagship store on Vittal Mallya Road, Bangalore. Each piece is painstakingly put together as every diamond, every bead and sapphire is carefully placed to create the magic that is this collection.
The collection comprises stunning necklaces, pendants, rings, earrings, bracelets and ear cuffs, each representing some part of the entire lifecycle of a cherry blossom. I’ve styled key pieces from the collection in ways that transition from day to night!
I fell in love with these statement cuffs – they’re versatile enough to wear with a stunning anarkali as well as a cocktail dress.
This necklace, which has already been booked many times over, is a masterpiece. I just knew I had to try it on, and all eyes will definitely be on you if you wear this stunner to your next social do!
It’s so beautiful that if you touch it, some of the flowers and leaves move to imitate the way the delicate blossoms move with the breeze on an actual cherry blossom tree branch. Each flower on the necklace has a special groove attached to it that makes it move this way. Pair it with something in a dark colour – classic black, or midnight blue, or the darkest of greens, to make the beauty of this truly stand out. And if you’re wearing a statement lehenga in a gorgeous dark shade, this necklace will be a showstopper for you.
Not a big fan of bling? Want to keep it simple? I found just the piece that you’ll love. This lovely pendant captures the way the blossom looks before it’s in full bloom, and so has more yellow accents in it. The earrings I paired with it are very ornate, with more pink accents, so they pair well with this, and can be worn on their own too.
Ganjam also has a very unique detachable bracelet that has an outer part with pink sapphires, and an inner part with a plain diamond band. You can either wear just the diamond band, or just the outer part, or both depending on what occasion and style you’re going for. Their statement rings can also take your eveningwear to the next level.
For those times when you’re in the mood for a fabulous brunch with your besties, I’ve styled some of my favourites from the collection. Take a look!
An assortment of rings and a statement choker will make your white or pastel brunch outfit pop. There’s nothing quite like indulging in delicious brunch food in style!
The Sakura Collection is a contemporary take on cherry blossoms by one of the country’s oldest, most reputed jewellery brands. Since 1889, Ganjam has prided itself on its legacy of the most innovative jewellery designs, handcrafted by the country’s best artisans, and also for using F colour diamonds which have been certified as having the highest quality. The collection is available at their stores across the country, and the staff is super helpful in helping you select something you’d love to own.
