What does ‘bohemian’ mean? The dictionary definition is ‘socially unconventional’, but for me it’s all about being a free spirit. About individuality, about expressing oneself wholeheartedly, and embracing every aspect of who you are.
I have always been a free spirit at heart. Growing up, I found that I never really fit into a specified mould. I’ve found happiness and fun in the most random of places. At the age of 5 I wandered off while at the airport and was found chatting happily with a random pilot at the airport before our flight to Kathmandu – no holds barred. I would always stand out because of my height and the fact that I could talk about anything to just about anyone. As a kid, I was equally at ease climbing trees and jumping around sand mounds as I was playing with my dolls. I’d find ways to invent games if I was bored. See patterns in the most random of things like water splashes on the wall. Started writing poetry and stories and filled entire notebooks with them.
As I grew and evolved I found myself eager to question, rebel, and create my own path. And that’s when I started expressing myself more through fashion. I found myself in music that was offbeat, I started expressing myself more through what I wore and scoured the markets for one-of-a-kind pieces. Most of all, I loved being me, and though it took me a while to truly find myself, it was so freeing to truly love myself.
This outfit is like an expression of everything that being bohemian means to me. There’s lots of colour, different textures and styles in one outfit.
I started with this men’s shirt that I really loved from H&M – it fits well and can be styled in so many ways (more on that some other time), and paired it with a grey form-fitting skirt.
The jacket was one of my mom’s and my many finds at Dilli Haat. It was instant love when I saw the amazing combination of colours.
The earrings were bagged on a street shopping spree, and the footwear is from my favourite online shoe store.
I fell in love with these sandals the moment I saw them. The fun colourful pompoms, the overall style – what’s not to like?
This pretty clutch is also from Dilli Haat – the embroidery is simply beautiful.
My eye makeup look was created using the Urban Decay Alice In Wonderland Limited Edition palette – it’s an easy look but the colour combination makes it stand out. Will do a tutorial soon if you guys want me to!
