The 8th edition of the India Runway Week is starting on the 28th of April. This time, the focus is on weavers and artisans who are a vital part of India’s culture. The Indian Federation for Fashion Development has joined hands with four organizations who work towards bringing India’s traditions to the world through products and handicrafts.
These organizations are Rangsutra, SoCHE, Banka Silk and Gestures By Kriti. They will present some of these artisans’ work at the India Runway Week from the 28th to 30th April 2017.
Rangsutra represents lots of artisans from the remote and far-flung regions of Rajasthan and Eastern UP, while SoCHE focuses on reviving a particular type of hand embroidery that women practice near Barmer. Banka Silk works on imparting skills to help weavers sustain themselves and build up their own businesses through their craft. Finally, Gestures by Kriti works towards promoting ethical, sustainable and community made products through their initiative that began in 1999.
At the India Runway Week, there’s also going to be the Fashion Shuttle, a fun space where attenders can chill, binge on some yummy snacks, browse with the free wifi and a lot more surprises in store.
