Lyrics: Brimful of Asha by Cornershop
Independence Day (celebrated on 15th August every year, for my non-Indian readers) is near, and we’re going to see a lot of celebrations around this beautiful, confusing, contradictory, diverse, maddening country that I call home. I decided to do an outfit that reflects my India at this point in time – but it was a bit of a challenge for me – hope you like it!
For me, modern India is in a transitionary phase. We’ve developed mostly when it comes to the middle class, in terms of the kinds of facilities, information and infrastructure that we have access to today. We’ve still got a long, long way to go though, when it comes to reshaping our outlook on things. But that’s a subject for another day. You see, everything said and done, this mind-bogglingly beautiful country is home. I wanted my outfit of the day to reflect the modern Indian – in a (relatively) good place about their country and culture, while also having interests in global culture and cuisine.
Instead of wearing a blouse, I decided to pair it with a black tee, and finished the look with a gold jacket and minimalistic jewellery. The effect – a fusion look that has the best of both worlds!
We shot this in one of Bangalore’s beautiful parks, I felt this called for more natural surroundings! Outfit details after the photos.
Btw, if YOU want to win a gorgeous sari, all you have to do is follow the instructions (please read carefully) in this post and share your sari draping style on my Facebook page or Twitter with the hashtag #DrapeItMyWay. Contest ends on 17th so hurry!
With that, I wish all of you a Happy Independence Day – let’s try not to be too cynical despite the news these days – all we can do is our best at whatever we’re good at, and the rest will follow, gradually and soon 🙂
